Building Awareness and Support in The City

Despite being close to the City of Bath, Smallcombe Cemetery is tucked away and currently visited rarely. We thought we should raise its profile and test community interest in its conservation by running a photography competition and exhibition. Our research at the exhibition confirmed our beliefs, with 52% of surveyed Bath residents saying they had never been, but now intended to go.

553 photographs were submitted, from all age ranges; donations of prizes and support in-kind from local businesses, as well as from The National Trust, The Royal Photographic Society and the Mayor of Bath; hundreds of hours were given by volunteers and, to top it off, we welcomed 1421 visitors over 6 days, of whom 50 joined as Friends and 395 expressed their support with cash donations, and by providing their email addresses, by every measure our hopes were exceeded.
